FC Volendam triumphs in important relegation cracker against SC Cambuur

FC Volendam was immediately allocated a basic place to Florent Sanchez Da Silva. The Frenchman, hired from Olympique Lyon, started in midfield next to captain Carel Eiting in a 5-2-3 formation.

Wim Jonk’s new conception of the game immediately resulted in the desired effect in the opening phase. In the eighth minute, fullback Derry John Murkin had escaped the Cambuur defense and put the ball well back to Bilal Ould-Chikh. FC Volendam’s right winger shot the ball hard and high into the ropes for the opening goal.

Less than a minute later, the 310 FC Volendam fans who traveled along could cheer again. Robert Mühren was sent deep from the back by Xavier Mbuyamba and lobbed the ball over Cambuur goalkeeper João Virginia for the second goal of the afternoon.

After the lightning start, FC Volendam lost control of the match. However, Cambuur was unable to create great opportunities from open play. The Frisians did get a life-size chance from a free kick. FC Volendam goalkeeper Filip Stankovic prevented the tying goal with a miraculous save, so that it remained 0-2 at the break.

Flute concert

After tea, SC Cambuur emphatically went looking for the connection goal. Nevertheless, FC Volendam’s defense hardly ran into problems, which led to whistle concerts from the home crowd. FC Volendam even closed the match fifteen minutes before the end. With his first ball contact, substitute Henk Veerman headed in the 0-3 final score from a cross.

Because of the victory, SC Cambuur and FC Volendam exchange places in the ranking in the premier league. The Frisians are now last and have eight points. FC Volendam has one point more and is seventeenth.
