FC Volendam has one point left from the away match against Heracles Almelo. Lequincio Zeefuik opened the score before half-time, after which Jizz Hornkamp equalized in the second half (1-1). The eel farmers have the same number of points as Vitesse, which plays against Feyenoord tomorrow afternoon.
Trainer Regilio Simons chose to start with Lequincio Zeefuik. That was at the expense of Robert Mühren. Luke Le Roux also started in the starting line-up and that was the South African’s starting debut for FC Volendam.
The home team started the match strongly. Already in the second minute, Jordy Bruijn had a great opportunity, but Volendam keeper Mio Backhaus managed to stop the ball. Then Heracles was dangerous through a long shot from Brian De Keersmaecker.

After Heracles’ stormy start, Volendam became dangerous. Zeefuik became dangerous with a shot outside the sixteen. The visitors then received a corner and Zeefuik opened the score with a beautiful header.
After FC Volendam’s goal the match collapsed. Heracles became the most dangerous through chances from Jannes Wieckhoff and Jordy Bruijn, but keeper Mio Backhaus kept his goal clear and with a 0-1 score, both teams went to the dressing room.

After halftime, Heracles had possession of the ball, but this did not result in any clear-cut opportunities in the first fifteen minutes of the second half. Heracles came alongside in the 63rd minute. Substitute Jizz Hornkamp tapped in from close range: 1-1. Then the home crowd got behind Heracles and Volendam had a hard time.
To survive
With about twenty minutes to go, De Keersmaecker shot just over the Volendam goal and Heracles continued to apply pressure. In an outbreak, FC Volendam managed to become dangerous. After a beautiful move by Zeefuik, substitute Zach Booth was able to race towards the Heracles goal, but his shot went over.
In the final phase, Volendam got away well after Hoogma’s header just went over the goal. For FC Volendam it was mainly about survival in the second half and they succeeded with a lot of skill.
FC Volendam is still eighteenth in the Premier League. The red lantern can be handed over to Vitesse tomorrow. The Arnhem team will be in action against Feyenoord from 2:30 PM. In the event of a defeat, Volendam is seventeenth due to a better goal difference.
