FC Volendam makes five against amateurs Harkemase Boys and continues to convert

FC Volendam has reached the second round of the KNVB Cup tonight at the expense of Harkemase Boys. Despite a rough first half, a visit to the third divisionist from Friesland was eventually won with large numbers: 5-1.

At FC Volendam there was a base place for Imran Nazih for the first time. The 16-year-old talent from the youth academy of the Volendam team started in midfield alongside Walid Ould-Chikh and Carel Eiting. In the opening phase of the game, the biggest opportunities were for Harkemase Boys, but Jhurrey Margaritha failed to score twice. After the surprising start, it was FC Volendam that opened the scoring after fifteen minutes. Of all people Nazih was the scorer. The basic debutant shot in the opening goal after a nice heel by Robert Mühren through the inside of the post.

Roll up your sleeves

Harkemase Boys, the latter in the third division, showed beautiful football at times and even got a wage after working for half an hour. After his two previous misses, Margaritha was now sharp and made the 1-1 from a rebound. After the equalizer FC Volendam rolled up their sleeves and quickly fought their way to a new lead. On the stroke of half-time, Robert Mühren scored the 1-2, after the striker had released himself in the enemy sixteen thanks to a nice cut movement.

After the tea it was almost only FC Volendam that struck the clock. Wim Jonk’s team already had good chances for a third goal via Mühren and Carel Eiting, but in the end Ibrahim El Kadiri was the man who was allowed to put his hands in the air. The swift winger shot hard from the edge of the sixteen in the intersection: 1-3.

The resistance of the Frisian opponent was finally broken. Substitute Lequincio Zeefuik made the fourth Volendam goal fifteen minutes before the end and tastemaker El Kadiri was responsible for the 1-5 final score with his second of the evening.

With the win, FC Volendam advances to the second round of the national cup tournament. The next match for the eel farmers is next Sunday against SC Heerenveen. Kick-off in Volendam is at 8 p.m.
