Fc Volendam: 32-year-old Kohler resigns as coach – dispute in the club

Assistant Dingsdag helps out

Matthias Kohler is no longer head coach of FC Volendam. The 32-year-old resigned from his post after the Eredivisie club was rocked by a dispute between the board and its management. Most recently, chairman Jan Smit, among others, was fired for allegedly doing poor work, which is why Kohler and director of professional football Wim Jonk and Kohler announced their resignation. Now the chaos seems perfect. FC Volendam simply announced on Tuesday that assistant coach Michael Dingsdag would take charge on an interim basis until the winter break. The fact that Kohler is no longer in office was not mentioned at all.

“If the club and the players call me, I am of course ready to support the club,” Dingsdag is quoted as saying. Volendam is in relegation place 17th after 14 games. In the summer, the Eredivisie club decided to appoint the previous coach Wim Jonk as the new one Director of professional football. In his first official act, Jonk was responsible for promoting his previous assistant coach Kohler to the main coach at the age of 32 and giving him a contract until 2026.

“Taking on the position of head coach fits my character well with the challenges ahead because I like to move outside my comfort zone. We want to surprise in terms of sport with the youngest squad in the Eredivisie, coupled with one of the smallest budgets in the league,” Kohler explained in a Transfermarkt interview at the beginning of July. His engagement ended just a few months later.
