FC St. Pauli wants a decision from coach Fabian Hürzeler

The open future of head coach Fabian Hürzeler keeps those responsible at FC St. Pauli on their toes. Sports director Andreas Bornemann makes it no secret that the second division team wants a decision from the 30-year-old. The manager didn’t want to talk about a disruptive factor. “The basic statement that you can make is certainly – and I emphasize this again and again – the more clarity we have about all the issues that are happening in and around the team, the higher the likelihood that we will use our power “Get the place,” emphasized Bornemann on “Sky”.

After 18 match days in the lower house, Hamburg are in the top position ahead of Holstein Kiel and city rivals Hamburger SV. Hürzeler took over the FCSP as the successor to Timo Schultz, who now works at 1. FC Köln, in December 2022 and has scored an impressive 2.26 points per game since then. His contract ends next summer. According to consistent reports, the coach, who was born in Houston (Texas), would like to have an exit clause in his contract in the event of an extension – which St. Pauli reportedly rejects.

In Bornemann’s opinion, clarity on the coaching question would increase the likelihood that “we will make the most of our options and not offer any loopholes or alternatives for any excuses that can then be used as an explanation for something. And so I think you can say that it would definitely be good for everyone involved to have clarity as early as possible.” The 52-year-old continued: “No matter what it looks like. That’s still better than the long period of uncertainty.”

However, the FCSP does not want to point the gun at its high-flying coach. “Nothing can be forced. And what is forced cannot be lived with conviction afterwards. […] This must be lived with full conviction by all sides. And then it also has a chance of being successful. And then you might have to do one or two more laps. Ultimately, we are happy to do that,” said Bornemann.

FC St. Pauli: Bornemann sees coach Hürzeler as a stroke of luck

In the Transfermarkt interview at the beginning of November, he, who has been in charge of the Brown-Whites since July 2019, described the decision in favor of Hürzeler as an absolute stroke of luck: “We need people who can make others better. We are already working with Fabian next winter and summer to further develop the team. And he knows that at his age we gave him the trust to train a professional team and develop something with them. He has almost complete freedom with his coaching team. Fabian himself spoke of a privilege.”
