With FC Schalke and SV Darmstadt, two top teams from the 2nd league met. The Royal Blues triumphed and salute from the top of the table.

FC Schalke 04 continues its triumphant march in the 2nd Bundesliga and takes the lead in the table for the time being. On Friday evening, coach Miron Muslic’s team won 1-0 in the top duel against SV Darmstadt. In front of their home crowd, the “Knappen” once again delivered a strong performance and, especially defensively, hardly allowed anything to happen. An early goal from striker Moussa Sylla in the ninth minute was enough to win.

After their fifth win in a row, Schalke are now at the top of the table with 24 points, but could be displaced again by a win for SV Elversberg at Arminia Bielefeld on Saturday. Darmstadt suffered a setback in the promotion race and remained in fifth place with 18 points.

In the parallel game, Karlsruher SC won 4-1 against Greuther Fürth.

In front of 61,198 spectators in the Schalke Arena, who loudly supported their team, the hosts got off to a perfect start and scored an early 1-0 lead (9th minute) after a fine pass from Soufiane El-Faouzi through center forward Moussa Sylla. 20 minutes later, visiting goalkeeper Marcel Schuhen prevented the Schalke striker from scoring another goal with a quick save. The guests lacked dangerous offensive actions after the loss of their top goalscorer Isac Lidberg. Killian Corredor only scored from an offside position in the final phase.

Without captain Branimir Hrgota, who was relegated to the substitutes’ bench for 70 minutes, SpVgg Greuther Fürth suffered their next severe blow against Karlsruher SC. Five days after the disastrous 0:6 in Elversberg, the Franconians lost 1:4 (0:2) in Ronhof at home.

With 28 goals conceded after ten games, the Fürth team are the shooting gallery of the 2nd Bundesliga. And coach Thomas Kleine has to be 14th in the table. fear consequences after the next haphazard and alarming appearance.

The KSC controlled the action on the pitch in front of 12,254 spectators and was effective with the goals from attacker Fabian Schleusener (3rd minute), midfielder Lilian Egloff (34th) and the outstanding playmaker Marvin Wanitzek (79th/90th + 5). Marcel Beifus was also unlucky with a header hitting the post (69′). Hrgota’s joker goal to make it 1:3 in stoppage time was not enough (90+1). After the final whistle there were whistles.

The Fürth team got off to a bad start and never really got going. There was a lack of stability, security and offensive power. Kleine’s triple substitution, in which he also sent the long-standing offensive player Hrgota onto the pitch, did not lead to a turnaround. On the contrary: the guests from Baden initially increased the score to 3-0. The promotion places remain within reach for them.
