With Frank Baumann, FC Schalke 04 has found a new sports director. The former sports director of Werder Bremen officially started his job on the Berger Feld on Sunday, after he had previously neatly mixed behind the scenes. The 49-year-old was presented on Sunday as part of a press conference.

“We were in rain for a few months. I am looking forward to his work,” said Supervisory Board Chairman Axel Hefer at the presentation of the new commitment for the sporting leadership of the crisis second division. Last year there was the first contact on the part of FC Schalke 04, said Frank Baumann.

“I was addressed for the first time at the end of November, at the beginning of December. For private reasons, however, it was out of the question for me. But I had given the question: If it shouldn’t work on January, but something is being sought in the summer, it would be appealing to me,” said the ex-Bremer in late Gelsenkirchen.

FC Schalke 04 faces “big challenges”

Under his supervision, there are “big challenges. But it can fit the timing. You have experienced a crisis for two years, but there is a willingness to change things,” the ex-professional made it clear: “I am the absolute conviction that with a clear plan, a clear idea, the chance of success.”

The cooperation with the Schalke management team around Hefer, CEO Matthias Tillmann and CFO Christina Rühl-Hamers has so far given him a “very good feeling. Trust is the basis,” emphasized the long-time midfielder of Werder Bremen.

It was already known that Baumann contributed to his opinions on squad planning before he took office. The search of the new head coach, which ended on Saturday with the signing of Miron Muslic, was already in the hands of the new sports director.
