FC Schalke 04 has Leipzig talent in its sights

After being promoted directly back to the Bundesliga, FC Schalke 04 is working on its squad for the upcoming season. After the club recently confirmed several departures from the squad of licensed players, new speculation about possible summer transfers has recently spread.

The broadcaster reported “sky“on Tuesday that Gelsenkirchen should be seriously interested in midfielder Tom Krauss.

The 20-year-old played on loan for 1. FC Nürnberg in the recently concluded second division season and was still on the pitch against the Royal Blues in the club’s 2-1 home defeat against Schalke.

According to the current status, Krauss will actually return to RB Leipzig in the summer, where he still has a contract until 2025. The native of Leipzig has not yet been able to assert himself with the Red Bulls. A single appearance in the Bundesliga was recorded until 2020, before he joined Franconia on a two-year loan.

Krauss is a regular in midfield at 1. FC Nürnberg

In Nuremberg, however, Krauss became a regular. In two second-division seasons, he played 63 out of a possible 68 games for 1. FC Nürnberg and also appeared as a goalscorer five times.

The most likely at the moment seems to be another loan deal from Leipzig with their U-national player. According to the media report, the midfielder can also very well imagine joining the Bundesliga returnees.

In the past second division season, FC Schalke signed several loan players who helped the club on its way back to the top flight. Some of them were then permanently signed, such as full-back Thomas Ouwejan or striker Marvin Pieringer.
