FC Ingolstadt presents Köllner as coach and Grlic as sports director

Still at 1860 until January

FC Ingolstadt has found a successor on the bench two days after Guerino Capretti’s departure. The third division presented Michael Köllner on Thursday, who worked for league rivals 1860 Munich until January. In addition, Ivica Grlic comes to the “Schanzern” as sports director. No information was given about the contract terms.

“In Duisburg, Ivica Grlic recently proved that he can put together and lead a team that is capable of development, ambitious and sportingly successful. He also brings with him the many years of experience and acceptance as a successful player and connoisseur of the football industry, which we wanted for the position of sporting director. So Ivo fits perfectly into the profile required for our club and we are very happy to welcome him to the FCI,” said FCI Managing Director Dietmar Beiersdorfer. “From now on, we will focus fully on staying up in the league, for which we see ourselves well prepared with our new head coach Michael Köllner, before we set the course for the next third division season in this new constellation.”

After 1.FC Nuremberg and 1860, Ingolstadt is the third head coach station in Bavaria for Köllner. In just over three years he had scored 1.73 points per game with Munich, but had to retire at the beginning of the year after seven bankruptcies in a row. The 53-year-old said of his new job: “I’m happy to be the head coach of FC Ingolstadt 04 from today. A big thank you goes to those responsible for the very positive discussions. Now I’m excited to get to know the team personally, because working with the boys on the pitch is the best thing for a coach. After that, it just keeps going. SV Meppen is already waiting for us on Sunday.”
