FC Eindhoven just failed to pull off a stunt in the Kitchen Champion Division on Saturday evening. The Eindhoven team gave up a 3-2 lead deep into extra time against number two SC Cambuur: 3-3. Jan Poortvliet (70) was on the bench at FC Eindhoven for the first time this season as head coach, who replaced the injured Maurice Verberne.

The Eindhoven team took a 2-0 lead before halftime thanks to goals from Sven Simons and Thijs Muller. Just before half time, Mark Diemers scored the Frisians 2-1 from the penalty spot.

In the second half, the promotion candidate from Leeuwarden leveled through Ismaël Baouf. The 2-2 did not last long, because just before the end Daan Huisman tapped the third Eindhoven goal behind the goalkeeper. That goal turned out not to be enough for the win, because in extra time Jort van der Sande, former striker of FC Eindhoven, made the score 3-3.

In FC Eindhoven’s previous match against FC Den Bosch, Mike van Dijk replaced Maurice Verberne, who was out for a while due to a broken leg. Van Dijk has now been with the Dutch under-17 team for ten days, causing Poortvliet to move on to the position of final responsibility.

The draw puts FC Eindhoven in seventeenth place in the Kitchen Champion Division.
