Gregor Kobel is one of the most important players at BVB. But how long will the Swiss continue to play in black and yellow?
According to “Bild”, FC Chelsea is once again showing great interest in Dortmund goalkeeper Gregor Kobel. It is said that if BVB misses out on qualifying for the Champions League, a move for the 27-year-old Swiss in the summer could become more likely. The TV channel Sky had also already reported that Chelsea were keeping an eye on the keeper.
The English have already been associated with Kobel in the past. In the spring of 2023, interest from the “Blues” was first reported from England.
But Kobel decided to stay and signed a new contract in Dortmund six months later. At that time he emphasized: “I want to win titles here!” But despite these ambitions, the longed-for trophy has so far failed to materialise. After missing the 2023 championship and losing the Champions League final against Real Madrid, BVB’s hopes are high this season too. However, the early exit from the DFB Cup and a disappointing eighth place in the Bundesliga have dampened this so far.
If Dortmund miss the Champions League, a player of Kobel’s caliber would be difficult to keep. Chelsea, on the other hand, is currently second in the Premier League and on track under coach Enzo Maresca. But the club doesn’t seem to be quite as satisfied in goal.
At Chelsea, Robert Sánchez and Filip Jörgensen currently share the playing minutes, but in the long term a goalkeeper like Kobel could be the solution. A possible transfer fee of up to 80 million euros should not be an obstacle for the financially strong London club.
