FC Bayern and Mala Grohs are going their separate ways at the end of this season. Your future is open.

After seven years together, Mala Grohs will leave FC Bayern in the summer. The club is not extending the goalkeeper’s expiring contract. The Munich women announced this on Tuesday afternoon. She will be farewelled on Saturday at the last home game of the season against Eintracht Frankfurt.

Bianca Rech, director of women’s football at FC Bayern, looked back on our time together. “Mala passed away at a young age in 2019 Bochum She came to us and worked her way up to the first team with great determination and discipline, where she became our number one,” she is quoted in the club’s statement. “With us, she has celebrated five championship titles, a DFB Cup victory and two Supercup successes and has been instrumental in many of our team’s special moments.”

Rech also spoke about the cancer diagnosis that Grohs received in October 2024: “Her serious illness affected us all very much, but Mala continued with impressive strength, courage and great positivity and thus set a role model for many people.”

Grohs, who had already been called up for the German senior national team before her illness, has played ten games for the Bayern women so far this season. She was recently only second choice behind Ena Mahmutovic.

The 24-year-old still found warm words to say goodbye. “FC Bayern has become a home for me,” she said. “When I look back on my seven years here, I think of countless little moments in the dressing room, our title wins and my first steps in professional football.”

Meanwhile, it is still unclear where she will continue her career. “Now I can look forward in a healthy way and look back with pride and gratitude,” concluded Grohs.
