After the fuss surrounding Wirtz’s impending contract extension in Leverkusen, another player is once again in the focus of FC Bayern.

Bayer Leverkusen has not yet officially confirmed the impending early contract extension with Florian Wirtz. The amazing news that the “Kicker” reported on still caused a huge stir. Especially at FC Bayern, where Wirtz was a declared preferred candidate for the coming summer and the next possible 100 million euro transfer.

If the reports actually turn out to be true and Wirtz, who is still under contract with Leverkusen until 2027, continues to commit to the factory club, that would be a serious setback for the record champions. Bayern would then inevitably have to tackle other goals in the transfer market. Xavi Simons from RB Leipzig is considered Bayern’s plan B and the first alternative to Wirtz.

The Munich team already tried to get the 21-year-old Dutch international this summer. Bayern’s sports director Max Eberl brought him to RB Leipzig on loan from Paris Saint-Germain in 2023 and continues to be in close contact with the attacking midfielder. In the end, Xavi Simons decided against Bayern and instead went on loan to RB for another year.

However, at least since the fuss surrounding the possible Wirtz contract extension, Xavi Simons has become the focus of Bayern again. Sky also reports that the people of Munich are working intensively with him again.

When asked about the playmaker, who is now on the verge of his comeback after a ligament injury in his left ankle that he suffered in October, Eberl said before the Leipzig game (5-1): “Xavi Simons is an extraordinary player. Such a player You can’t replace it one-to-one.” However, he could possibly replace Wirtz in Bayern’s transfer plans.

What could play into Bayern’s hands and at least make the negotiations easier: Xavi’s former club PSV Eindhoven would no longer be involved in a transfer from 2025 and would no longer be involved in a transfer fee.
