FC Bayern vs. Union Berlin is threatened with cancellation

The Bundesliga game between FC Bayern and Union Berlin on Saturday (3:30 p.m.) is apparently in danger of being canceled.

This is what “Bild” reporter Tobias Altschäffl reports on X (formerly Twitter). Discussions about a possible relocation are currently underway. A decision should be announced soon.

The background is the ongoing weather and traffic chaos in the state of Bavaria and especially in Munich. At the state capital’s airport, flight operations were expected to be suspended until 12 p.m. due to heavy snowfall.

As a spokesman announced on Saturday morning, the winter service is in action to enable safe operations again. So far, around 320 of 760 planned flights have been canceled for today. Subways, buses and trams also initially stopped running.

As Deutsche Bahn announced, numerous railway lines around Munich had to be closed on Saturday night. Train traffic to and from Munich main station was initially suspended.

Because of the massive snowfall, there were many serious accidents. It’s not expected to stop snowing until Saturday.

FC Bayern wants to “win all games”

After the zero score in the Champions League against FC Copenhagen, FC Bayern actually had big plans for the duel with Union.

“We have to increase the number of hits and the tempo and go a step further. We want to win all the games,” said coach Thomas Tuchel about the remaining four games in the league and the conclusion of the group phase of the Champions League at Manchester United.

Tuchel had focused more on his own team in preparation for the game because he could not yet accurately assess Union after just one game under new coach Nenad Bjelica.

“Union changed the basic order under him. I don’t know whether that’s permanent. Normally they always played with a chain of five. Now it was a 4-1-4-1,” said the FC Bayern head coach about the Berliner’s findings 1:1 in the premier class at Sporting Braga.
