Alexander Nübel has become one of the best goalkeepers in the Bundesliga and international at VfB Stuttgart. No wonder that questions about the ambitions of the 28-year arise. In an interview with RTL/NTV and Sport.de, Nübel talks about his contractual situation, a possible return to FC Bayern and the 2026 World Cup to the DFB team.

Alexander Nübel has not yet talked to those responsible for VfB Stuttgart about his future in the country. The national goalkeeper said that in an interview with RTL/NTV and sport.de Before the European Cup game of the Stuttgart in Basel (Thursday, from 8:15 p.m., live at RTL).

“So far we have not had any conversations. The former Schalke is borrowed from FC Bayern to VfB until the end of the season. According to “Sky”, the Munich team currently pay two thirds of his salary, which, depending on the premiums, should be between eleven and twelve million euros gross. In Munich, Nübel has contract until 2030.

Asked about his Bayern ambitions, Nübel was covered. Everyone knew that he was under contract with the record champions, he said. “But I’m still loaned now and everything else will be seen in spring,” he rolled out a rough timetable in terms of club future.

In the past, Nübel had more or less excluded a permanent return to Munich as long as Manuel Neuer is in the Bayern goal. The 39 -year -old’s contract runs until summer 2026 – then Nübel’s loan ends in Stuttgart.

Future at VfB Stuttgart? Nübel has “already extended”

The Bavarians had signed Nübel in 2020 as “heirs” by Neuer. In his shadow, however, he had little chance of showing himself.

After just one season, Nübel switched to AS Monaco on a loan 1 to the Ligue 1, in 2023 the Munich gave him to the southern rivals in Stuttgart. At VfB, Nübel developed into a top performer, became vice champions with the Swabians 2024 and 2025 cup winner.

Nübel emphasized that they were extremely satisfied in Stuttgart. He had “extended his rental contract with the Swabians a year and a half ago,” the goalkeeper indicated a possible whereabouts in the country. “I’m super happy. Everything is going very, very well. I am very happy, even outside and that’s the most important thing for me,” said Nübel.

With his strong performances in Stuttgart, Nübel fought a place in the squad of the German national football team. Under national coach Julian Nagelsmann, he made his debut in the DFB kit last year and has so far been on two A-international matches.

In the absence of the injured goalkeeper Marc-André Ter Stegen, Nagelsmann finally gave the Hoffenheimer Oliver Baumann the trust.

The World Cup in the USA, Canada and Mexico, however, has a firm eye on Nübel. “Be being at the World Cup – for home country, for Germany. A huge dream. This is already a goal and I dream of it. And I work towards that.”
