1. FC Nürnberg had already announced it at the end of the season, now it is official: Javier Fernández (19) will remain with the club. The midfield talent is on loan from FC Bayern for another season. The Spaniard is under contract with Munich until 2028.
Fernández joined coach Miroslav Klose’s team in January and played eight games, and at the end of the season he was in the starting line-up five times in a row. When the youngster came into play, FCN never left the pitch as a loser. At FC Bayern, Fernández had previously not played for the professionals.
“Javier has shown what great potential he has. We are very happy about the steps he has taken since joining us. It was always the plan to keep him with us beyond the second half of the season. We are therefore very pleased that this plan is now working,” said sports director Joti Chatzialexiou. Fernández added: “I have arrived very well at FCN, I feel very comfortable in the club and in the city. The match practice is good for me, I notice that I am improving in many areas. That will also be my goal for the new season: keep pushing and improve even more.”
Bayern’s sporting director Christoph Freund explained: “Despite some setbacks due to injuries, Javi has developed well and gained valuable experience at 1. FC Nürnberg. The extension of the loan is the right step for his further development. We are convinced that he will receive the necessary match practice at the club and look forward to continuing to closely monitor his progress.”
