There is a need for action at FC Bayern in several defensive positions. In order to be able to fix two construction sites at once, the German record champions are looking for all-rounders. Former Schalke player Thilo Kehrer, with whom coach Thomas Tuchel is reportedly planning a meeting, would fit the profile.
A defender who can play inside and out would be a good fit for FC Bayern. In the first half of the season, coach Tuchel had to make do with a skeleton squad at times, and the Bundesliga club’s bad luck with injuries was under control.
That’s why the people of Munich want to go on a shopping spree in the winter and get new options for the back team. Quite surprisingly, Thilo Kehrer is said to be a topic.
As the “Football Transfers” portal reports, Tuchel wants to meet the 27-year-old, who is rarely used at West Ham United, shortly in order to “get an initial idea of the professional’s intentions and availability.”
Kehrer, who once made his breakthrough at FC Schalke 04, wants to move during the winter break in order to preserve his chances of getting a ticket for the home European Championship. Most recently, the right-footer was no longer part of the DFB squad.
Great competition for FC Bayern
Tuchel and Kehrer already worked together successfully at Paris Saint-Germain. After the coach left, the shares of the defensive all-rounder fell, who ultimately moved on to West Ham in 2022 for twelve million euros.
After a decent debut season in the Premier League, Kehrer has been sidelined in recent months, only playing for 392 minutes in the first half of the season.
The Swabian native’s current working document is valid until 2026, so a loan deal would be conceivable. Kehrer feels just as comfortable in central defense as he does on the right wing.
Of course, FC Bayern is not alone in wooing the DFB star: league rivals Eintracht Frankfurt are also said to be interested in signing Kehrer, as are Serie A representatives AC Milan and AS Roma as well as FC Sevilla from Spain.
