FC Bayern: Sports director Salihamidzic criticizes goalkeeper Manuel Neuer

Insights into winter deal

Board member for sport Hasan Salihamidzic agreed with Oliver Kahn’s criticism of the statements made by national goalkeeper Manuel Neuer in two interviews and announced that the subject would be clarified with the Bayern Munich captain. He had expected something different from him as captain, said Salihamidzic in an interview with “picture on sunday“.

Discuss FC Bayern and Manuel Neuer in the forum nowThis way
“If there are any consequences, we will first discuss it with Manuel himself. The disappointment he got because of tapas (Note d. Editor: Goalkeeper coach Toni Tapalovic) Describes exemption, which also applies to us because Manuel has put his personal interests above the interests of the club. But we will discuss it internally with him sensibly, ”explained the sporting director. In an interview with the “Süddeutsche Zeitung” and “The Athletic”, Neuer verbally attacked the record champions’ club management for the separation from goalkeeping coach Toni Tapalovic.

That was “the most blatant” thing he had experienced in his career, said the newcomer who had been missing for a long time with a broken leg. “It was a blow for me when I was already on the ground. I had the feeling my heart was being ripped out.” At the request of the German Press Agency, Bayern boss Oliver Kahn announced “clear talks” with Neuer. “What Manuel said in parts of these two interviews in connection with Toni Tapalovic’s release does neither do justice to him as captain nor to the values of FC Bayern. In addition, his statements come at an inopportune time because we are facing very important games, ”said Kahn.

Salihamidzic found that the CEO correctly classified the interview in the parts relevant to FC Bayern. “What that means? That we have a very important issue to clarify with Manuel,” he announced. “I understand that Manuel is personally affected. But I would have expected a different behavior from him, especially as captain. Tapalovic’s decision, which was also difficult for us personally, had nothing to do with Manuel in this matter, and we explained that to him,” Salihamidzic continued.

When asked about the goalkeeper’s state of health, who broke his lower leg while skiing on winter vacation, the 46-year-old was optimistic: “When you talk to the doctors, the clear statement is that Manuel is on the right track. He was operated on very, very well, the first aid was perfect. That’s half the battle.”

Salihamidzic on Cancelo transfer: Four years with him

Bayern’s sports director also gave a detailed insight into the background of the Munich king transfer João Cancelo in the newspaper and explained that an earlier commitment had failed due to the financial means: “After the transfer was dry and dry, we actually thought about it again long we’ve been dealing with João. We came up with over four years! A transfer was never possible before. Either the position was filled at the time or we didn’t have the money for it. In the end, our persistence paid off.”

The Portuguese’s agent, Jorge Mendes, knew “how much I appreciate the player. When it was clear that Cancelo was on the market, I got the signal last Sunday. Since both sides already knew a lot about each other’s ideas, the deal went very quickly.” Salihamidzic kept a low profile when asked whether FC Bayern could and would actually buy the 70 million euro option for the full-back included in the loan agreement : “The most important thing is that João feels comfortable in Munich and can perform in the second half of the season. However, we also made it clear to him that this sum is difficult for us to imagine in the next few years. But I also learned that if all sides absolutely want a common solution, you can manage it in the end. He knows that he has been one of our dream players for years.” The fact that no loan fee is due to the releasing Manchester City as part of the deal is “thanks to the network, but of course it’s also luck.”

Salihamidzic on Chelsea transfers: Unimaginable for us

Bayern’s sports director also commented on the massive transfer activities of the top English club Chelsea. The Blues invested more than 300 million euros in new players in winter alone. “That sounds crazy. For us, such sums are unimaginable. Even if we occasionally have the opportunity to get a top player into the Bundesliga, we have to work out exactly how we can refinance that. It is simply not possible for FC Bayern to refinance more than 600 million euros. We know we can’t compete financially with clubs like Chelsea. But we also know how attractive FC Bayern is to players with its style of play, its successes, its history and the environment,” said Salihamidzic.
