The 2022/23 season ended prematurely for Manuel Neuer. The goalkeeper and captain of FC Bayern announced on Saturday via Instagram that he had broken his lower leg while skiing while on vacation and had to have an operation. “What can I say, the end of the year could definitely have gone better,” wrote the 36-year-old, who was last with the German national team at the World Cup in Qatar.

Bavaria’s CEO Oliver Kahn has via Twitter reacted to the loss of the goalkeeper. “The news of Manuel’s injury shocked us all. We will stand by his side and accompany him on his way to his comeback. He will overcome this serious injury and return to the pitch as strong as before,” wrote the 53-year-old.
Sport director Hasan Salihamidzic said: “It’s terrible that Manuel had such an accident and of course all our thoughts are with him. I spoke to him yesterday and today, the operation went as well as possible. Manuel will receive every support. He is a strong personality and will come back. I wish him all the best, he can rely on FC Bayern!”
