FC Bayern | PK with Max Eberl now LIVE!

This Tuesday morning (11 a.m.) Max Eberl will be introduced to FC Bayern. In addition, President Herbert Hainer and CEO Jan-Christian Dreesen will also comment on Eberl’s new role with the German record champions.

sport.de reported today from 11 a.m at this point in the LIVE ticker from the FC Bayern press conference.

+++ Eberl about his relationship with Christoph Freund +++

Christoph and I will approach sporting issues on an equal footing. We want to advance the squad together. We will try to recruit good players for Bayern and push the campus further forward. There can therefore be no question of Christoph being “disempowered”.

+++ Is Eberl aware of the task? +++

I’ve already signed. I can’t go back! I am not a savior. I’m a hands-on type of guy. I can work very well in a team, I need the expertise. Of course the task list is quite large, but it’s fun.

+++ Eberl about his transfer philosophy +++

I believe that the FC Bayern squad has always been outstanding. To be fair, it must also be said that it is never nice when the squad is repeatedly picked apart by injuries. Our philosophy is to bring the best players to Munich to win titles. It doesn’t always have to be a top star. Other clubs get cash injections, this club doesn’t. Of course we will also find ways to develop players like Mathys Tel.

+++ Eberl on the summer dismissal of Thomas Tuchel +++

I’ll start on 3/1, but the club has been in a situation for weeks. It’s about FC Bayern. I wasn’t involved in the decision. The club has always made very good decisions, but for me as an outsider it feels right.

+++ Eberl about the timing of his commitment +++

I received the request in November. That was the first contact. When the question came in December as to whether I could imagine doing that, it became clear to me relatively quickly that I wanted to do it.

+++ What trainer profile is Max Eberl looking for? +++

We want to find a coach who suits FC Bayern. Real Madrid managed to add players like Camavinga despite an old midfield. We have to create something like that too. There are candidates. Bayern Munich is a great address.

+++ Eberl over the last few weeks +++

Of course, I’ve watched a lot of games and had a lot of conversations in the last few weeks. There are a lot of tasks, but I actually want to make the most of the next three months. The boys on the pitch will do everything on the pitch to make the impossible happen.

+++ Eberl about his relationship with Uli Hoeneß +++

I am an absolute team player and would be stupid if I didn’t bring in the expertise of such personalities. I know that the legacy is very large, but I’m looking forward to it and am grateful for any help.

+++ Eberl about his style of leadership +++

Of course I will be with the coach a lot. I want to celebrate a lot of successes and for this it is important to work closely with the trainer. We want to support where we can support. I am the contact person for the trainer.

+++ Eberl about the upheaval in the summer +++

I don’t know how big the upheaval will be. I’ll start now, Christoph has a half year lead. We will discuss the information together. But we first have to find the right trainer. The club made a decision that I can understand.

+++ Eberl about the search for a trainer and the coming summer +++

Big challenges are coming. The focus is initially on the next three months. I’m not ready to give up the season just yet. We will now think about a new coach. We have to find the right coach and the right players for FC Bayern. Preferably as quickly as possible.

+++ Eberl about his return to FC Bayern +++

For me it is a great pleasure to come home again. I’m looking forward to getting to know a lot of people and then using my skills with exactly these people. There are challenges ahead. We are in the “hunter role” and want to keep the pressure up. Both in the Bundesliga and in the Champions League. I’m here to win titles.

+++ Dreesen about the collaboration with Eberl +++

Max knows the DNA of the club and knows what makes it tick. For us, it is important that we are a team, even within the closest management circle. I believe that Max’s heart never stopped beating for FC Bayern.

+++ Hainer about the Eberl commitment +++

We immediately said in the summer that we were looking for a sports director. When it became known that Max Eberl and RB Leipzig were parting ways, we sat down together. He was socialized at FC Bayern. We then started talking to him and it became clear relatively quickly that he really wanted to do this job. He has a deep understanding of football and is therefore a very good fit for us. We not only need the top players on the pitch, but also the top people on the board.

+++ Hainer about the new structure at FC Bayern +++

In the last few months, we have discussed intensively on the Supervisory Board how we want to position FC Bayern Munich in an ever-faster world. We have decided to reduce our board of directors. From July 1st this will consist of Jan Christian Dreesen, Michael Diederich and Max Eberl.

+++ The PK starts! +++

Ready to go. Max Eberl, Herbert Hainer and Jan-Christian Dreesen sit on the podium.

+++ It’s about to start! +++

From 11 a.m. we will report live from Bayern-PK with Max Eberl.

+++ Eberl starts new job on March 1st +++

On March 1st, Max Eberl becomes FC Bayern’s new sports director and automatically becomes one of the club’s most powerful men. It had been clear for several months that the 50-year-old would end up at FC Bayern.

Shortly after he left RB Leipzig, a position in Munich was discussed.

+++ Eberl returns to FC Bayern +++

For Eberl, returning to FC Bayern comes full circle. The native of Lower Bavaria came to the club in 1979 and went through FC Bayern’s various youth teams before moving to VfL Bochum in 1994.

“I spent my entire childhood and youth at FC Bayern and in Munich, so it is special for me to now return to the club where it all began in a new role,” explained Eberl in a club press release after his appointment was confirmed by Bayern’s nine-member supervisory board.

+++ There is a lot of work waiting for Eberl +++

There are work-intensive weeks and months ahead of Eberl. It is clear that Bayern coach Thomas Tuchel has to leave the club by the summer at the latest. So a new trainer is needed.

In addition, the German record champions’ squad is facing upheaval. With Manuel Neuer and Thomas Müller, two club legends are in what may be the last years of their careers. Top stars like Alphonso Davies and Leroy Sané could leave the club for free in the summer of 2025.
