FC Bayern | Next keeper broken: dramatic bottleneck in the goal

FC Bayern is slowly running out of goalkeepers: after professional goalkeeper Manuel Neuer and young hopeful Benjamin Ballis, Tom Hülsmann will now also be out for several weeks.

As the German record champions announced on their homepage, the 19-year-old suffered a muscle injury in his thigh in the Regional League game against 1. FC Schweinfurt (4-1), which put him out of action for some time. He was substituted at halftime.

Hülsmann only signed his first professional contract with FC Bayern in August. In the first two Bundesliga matches against Werder Bremen (4:0) and FC Augsburg (3:1), the teenager sat on the bench as deputy to veteran Sven Ulreich. He was also part of coach Thomas Tuchel’s squad in the Supercup against RB Leipzig (0:3).

In the current season, the two-meter giant was on the pitch for Bayern’s second team in six regional league games, conceding 13 goals.

Particularly bitter for Hülsmann: the first Youth League game of 2023/2024 on Wednesday against Manchester United will also take place without him.

FC Bayern recently announced cruciate ligament shock

Only last week, FC Bayern announced the serious injury to Hülsmann’s competitor Benjamin Ballis.

The 18-year-old tore the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee during training, was then operated on at Munich Orthopedic Surgery and now has to take “a forced break of several months”.

“We wish Benny a speedy recovery and a lot of strength for the coming months. We will support him with all our means on the way to his comeback,” Halil Altintop, sporting director of the FC Bayern Campus, was quoted as saying.

Ballis’ working paper at FC Bayern was only extended in February until the summer of 2026. His return is unlikely to take place until the end of the season at the earliest. Teammate Hülsmann won’t have to wait that long.
