Football Germany is looking forward to the Bundesliga clash between Borussia Dortmund and FC Bayern. The Munich team has to compete at BVB without the suspended Joshua Kimmich. Record national player Lothar Matthäus therefore brings an exciting option for the central midfield into play.
Joshua Kimmich’s red card in the recent duel between FC Bayern and SV Darmstadt 98 (8:0) has consequences. The 28-year-old has to watch, among other things, the top Bundesliga game against BVB (Saturday, 6:30 p.m.).
“He [Kimmich] has played outstandingly in the last few weeks and FC Bayern has problems in his position anyway,” Lothar Matthäus analyzed the situation in his “Sky” column.
Munich head coach Thomas Tuchel now has to “find solutions”. “I even see de Ligt in the defensive position in midfield if Upamecano should come back,” said the 1990 world champion, calling him an interesting alternative for FC Bayern.
De Ligt had already played as a six in the final phase of the game against Borussia Mönchengladbach (2-1) in September. Most recently, the Dutchman played in his usual position in the middle of the defense, also because Dayot Upamecano is currently missing due to a thigh injury. The Frenchman’s return against BVB is uncertain.
FC Bayern: Lothar Matthäus expects winter transfers
“You can let Musiala play there if you approach it more offensively,” said Matthäus, another option for the central midfield: “I don’t think the solution with Laimer, Musiala and before them Müller is that bad.”
“Kimmich is suspended, Goretzka has broken his hand, Upamecano is injured,” summed up the TV expert and judged: “If FC Bayern is missing two or three players in the defensive area, you can see that the squad is not there in depth is as well positioned as it is on offense.”
This is also why he expects winter transfers to Säbener Straße, says Matthäus.
