FC Bayern: Manuel Neuer’s jersey number was reassigned at the DFB

After the injury of captain Manuel Neuer, Marc-André ter Stegen is the new number one in the German national soccer team – and that is also reflected on the jersey.

The 30-year-old from FC Barcelona now plays with the number 1, which Bayern keeper Neuer has always worn for years. This is evident from the squad list including shirt numbers of the German Football Association for the test matches on Saturday against Peru and three days later against Belgium.

Kevin Trapp (32 / Eintracht Frankfurt) got the “12” for the first two international matches after the World Cup debacle and returnee Bernd Leno (30 / FC Fulham) got the “22”, which Ter Stegen otherwise wore.

Neuer will be out until the end of the season due to a broken leg. After his recovery, the 36-year-old wants to attack, both with Munich and in the national team. But Ter Stegen wants to fight for the regular place.

“I’ve always said: I want to be number one, both at FC Barcelona and in the national team. You’re not in goal just to play friendly games,” he recently said in an interview with “Bild am Sonntag”.
