FC Bayern loses with emotional Laso return

Basketball Bundesliga club Bayern Munich missed the desired statement victory when coach Pablo Laso returned to his old place of work.

The German Cup winners lost to defending champions Real Madrid on Thursday in the EuroLeague with 73:88 (37:42). Bayern’s best thrower was world champion Isaac Bonga with 15 points.

With six wins and eight defeats, Bayern are still in the middle of the table and had to make some progress towards the play-off places. For Laso, who coached Real from 2011 to 2022 and won 22 titles there, it was a special evening. The 56-year-old was greeted with applause by the Spanish fans, and he even cried himself.

Meanwhile, Alba Berlin also suffered their next defeat. At Red Star Belgrade, the team led by world champion Johannes Thiemann lost 71:85 (42:51). The Berliners’ most successful shooter was national player Louis Olinde with 13 points, captain Thiemann had twelve. It was the twelfth defeat of the current season, so Alba is still at the bottom of the table.
