FC Bayern loses ghost game in Belgrade

Bayern Munich’s basketball players suffered their next EuroLeague defeat in the ghost game in Belgrade.

In the clash with Israeli champions Maccabi Tel Aviv, who play their home games in the Serbian capital because of the war against Hamas, the German cup winners lost 90:93 (44:46). For Bayern it was the fifth defeat in the seventh game.

No spectators were allowed in the Aleksandar Nikolic Hall as all games involving Israeli clubs are classified as high-risk games. “It is of course special to play against Tel Aviv in Belgrade, but unfortunately that is the situation,” said world champion Andreas Obst before the duel.

Coach Pablo Laso’s team, which suffered its third competitive defeat in a row, always kept the game open. No team was able to gain a double-digit lead, Bayern’s new signing Serge Ibaka (16 points) reduced the score to 84:85 in the final phase (38th minute). After that, a 6-0 run put Maccabi on the road to victory. The best thrower for Munich was Carsen Edwards (17 points).

On Sunday (5 p.m. / Dyn) Bayern will play in the Bundesliga against runner-up and Champions League winner Telekom Baskets Bonn.
