Leon Goretzka has once again become a fixture in the midfield at FC Bayern and has already been in head coach Vincent Kompany’s starting line-up five times in the current Bundesliga season. In the medium term, his situation at FC Bayern remains completely uncertain.

Leon Goretzka’s contract with the German champions expires at the end of the current season, so as of now the national player would be available for free from July 1st.

As stated in the “Bayern Insider” podcast by “Bild” head of football Christian Falk, FC Bayern is now fundamentally ready and even willing to extend the contract with Goretzka again by several years. However, only if the 30-year-old is prepared to make a noticeable reduction in salary.

According to media reports, Goretzka is currently earning up to 17 million euros per season with the Munich team. The midfield star would probably have to say goodbye to this mega salary if he wanted to extend his contract with FC Bayern again.

Until an agreement is reached, there will probably still be clubs on the scene who can only imagine signing Goretzka on a free transfer next summer.

Will Fener approach FC Bayern in the winter?

According to the “Bild” podcast, this should also include the Turkish top club Fenerbahce. As is well known, the German-Italian head coach Domenico Tedesco took over for José Mourinho at Istanbul in the summer.

Tedesco knows Goretzka from her time at FC Schalke 04. In the 2017/2018 season, the Bochum native was an undisputed regular player under Tedesco. The coach’s opinion of his former protégé is said to be extremely positive even today.

If Fenerbahce were to get serious about the central midfielder in the winter, FC Bayern would probably be willing to talk about a change in January. However, due to the recent performances in the FCB jersey, it is considered very unlikely that the Munich team would give up their current regular player during the 2025/2026 season.
