In recent years, FC Bayern has repeatedly spent a lot of money on new defensive stars. Nevertheless, the defense in Munich remains a transfer construction site. Now there is new speculation about a possible mega transfer next summer.
FC Bayern is one of the “biggest interested parties” in central defender Marquinhos from Paris Saint-Germain, as reported by the Brazilian broadcaster “UOL Esporte”.
The 29-year-old has already received several inquiries about a change for the 2024/25 season, including mail from Munich. There is also interest primarily from the English Premier League; several top clubs are said to have targeted Marquinhos.
According to the report, the 84-time Brazilian national player is said to be very popular at FC Bayern because the next defensive change is supposed to be carried out.
Marquinhos is still under contract with PSG for a long time
The Munich team had only strengthened themselves in the winter with the Englishman Eric Dier, who came from Tottenham Hotspur on loan with the option of a permanent move. Last summer, the South Korean Min-jae Kim was signed by SSC Napoli for 50 million euros; a year earlier, they reached deep into their wallets for Matthijs de Ligt and transferred around 67 million euros to Juventus. In the 2021/22 season, Dayot Upamecano came to the Isar from Leipzig for 42.5 million euros.
Recently, however, there have been increasing rumors that Matthijs de Ligt in particular could say goodbye again in the summer after only two years at FC Bayern. The Dutchman is struggling with his role under head coach Thomas Tuchel, with Manchester United in particular reportedly showing great interest in signing him.
However, it is not clear whether FC Bayern will ultimately be able to realize a transfer of PSG superstar Marquinhos. The central defender has been playing for the capital city team since 2013 and his contract was extended until 2028 last year. Since PSG is already threatened with the departure of Kylian Mbappé, they will certainly not want to give up the defense chief so easily.
