In the first half of the game, Munich’s defense was poor. After the break, however, a different game developed. The final phase will be dramatic.

With a rousing comeback, the FC Bayern women secured their second win in the third game of the Women’s Champions League. In the end, the Munich team deservedly won 3-2 against FC Arsenal and turned a 0-2 deficit into a win.

Emily Fox (5th) and Mariona Caldentey (23rd) gave the guests the lead in an extremely weak defensive phase for Bayern, but after the half-time break the hosts managed the turnaround with goals from Alara (67th), Pernille Harder (80th) and Glódís Viggósdóttir (86th).

In their sixth appearance at the Allianz Arena in front of 15,407 spectators, the team around DFB captain Giulia Gwinn impressed, especially after the break – and impressively demonstrated their suitability against a top international team.

The “big stage brings with it a bit of extra tension,” goalkeeper Maria Luisa Grohs had emphasized the day before, and the team wanted to be supported by the audience: “The urge for action is great, the energy is there.” Despite constant support, the atmospheric south curve had no significant positive effect on the Bayern women’s game, and Grohs quickly had to take action. After a weak initial phase, the Munich team seemed to stabilize somewhat, but instead of an equalizer, the next cold shower followed.

After the restart, the Munich team stormed towards the opponent’s goal with renewed vigor, but the period of pressure apparently only lasted for a short time. But then Barcala rotated their offensive personnel, joker Alara brought hope back five minutes later – and Bayer actually turned the game around.
