FC Bayern confirms: Nagelsmann fired – Tuchel becomes the new coach

As of: 03/24/2023 6:02 p.m

Bayern Munich has confirmed the dismissal of coach Julian Nagelsmann. It is now also official that Thomas Tuchel is taking over the reins.

FC Bayern Munich has released coach Julian Nagelsmann. The chairman of the board, Oliver Kahn, and sports director, Hasan Salihamidžić, came to this decision in coordination with the president, Herbert Hainer. Nagelsmann will be succeeded by Thomas Tuchel. Tuchel has been given a contract until June 30, 2025 and will lead training for the first time on Monday.

The assistants have to go too

With Nagelsmann, the assistant coaches Dino Toppmöller, Benjamin Glück and Xaver Zembrod will also be released.

Shortly after 3 p.m. on Friday afternoon, coach Julian Nagelsmann drove up to the FC Bayern Munich club premises on Säbener Strasse. It was the last time as FCB coach. An hour later he was gone again.

Kahn: “Quality has been shown less often”

“When we signed Julian Nagelsmann for FC Bayern in the summer of 2021, we were convinced that we would work with him on a long-term basis – and that was the goal of all of us right up to the end,” says Oliver Kahn via press release. One had come to the conclusion “that the quality of our squad – despite the German championship last year – has shown itself less and less often”.

After the World Cup, the team no longer played so successfully and attractively, the strong fluctuations in performance made those responsible doubt whether the common goals were still achievable. “That’s why we’ve reacted now.”

Salihamidzic: “My most difficult decision as manager”

Salihamidzic also writes of a “thorough analysis” that led to his dismissal: “That was the most difficult decision in my time as a manager at FC Bayern. I had an open, trusting, friendly relationship with Julian from day one. I regret the separation from Julian.”
