“Miralem Pjanic will stay here. He convinced me and he will stay with us,” said FC Barcelona coach Xavi in mid-August. Even after the end of transfers in most European leagues, the 32-year-old midfielder could apparently leave the Catalans after all. As Fabrizio Romano and the Barça-affiliated reporter Gerard Romero report, the Bosnian international has received an offer from Sharjah Cultural SC from the United Arab Emirates.
In the UAE Pro League, Pjanic could sign for three years if he accepts the offer, in Barcelona the former professional from Juventus and AS Roma is still under contract until 2024. However, the free-kick specialist has not yet been used this season. Sharjah coach Cosmin Olaroiu is said to have personally contacted Pjanic to persuade him to make a move.
According to reports, the departure of the veteran could help Barça register the long-awaited extension with homegrown Gavi with the association in view of the salary cap in LaLiga. The 18-year-old, last season one of the biggest market value winners worldwide as a result of his strong development, was also seeded for the first four matchdays under Xavi. However, his contract now expires in 2023 because the new working paper has not yet been approved.
Sharjah had already caused a stir this summer with the signing of former Dortmund player Paco Alcácer (29). The UAE transfer window is open until October 4th.
