FC Barcelona bid farewell to Camp Nou Gerard Piqué with a 2-0 home win over Almeria.
The highly decorated central defender left the field in the 84th minute of his last game in front of a home crowd on Saturday night. The 35-year-old Piqué announced on Thursday that it would be his last appearance at the Camp Nou. Barcelona won thanks to goals from Ousmane Dembélé (48′) and Frenkie de Jong (62′) after the break.
Robert Lewandowski failed in the first half of the game in the 7th minute from the penalty spot. The Catalans are one point ahead of Real at the top of the table for the time being. The Madrilenians are only in action at Rayo Vallecano on Sunday.
Born in Barcelona, Piqué won the Champions League three times and the Spanish championship eight times with the Blaugrana. Most recently, however, he was hardly considered by coach Xavi.
