FC Barcelona: Samuel Umtiti signs with LOSC

France return

Samuel Umtiti returns to France after the termination of his contract at FC Barcelona and joins LOSC. As the club announced on Saturday, the 29-year-old defender has signed a working paper until 2025. For the 2018 world champion, it is the second stop in France, where he played for the professionals of his training club Olympique Lyon between 2012 and 2016 and played a total of 170 games (5 goals/3 assists).

“The return of a French world champion is always a hugely positive event for Ligue 1. We are delighted that Samuel has chosen his return to the North and to the LOSC. He immediately identified with our project! (…) With his experience, his irrepressible will to win and his wealth of experience, Samuel will make a big difference on and off the pitch,” said club president Olivier Létang about the fifth signing.

Umtiti was on loan at US Lecce in Italy last season and was a defensive player. At the Giallorossi, the left-footed player increased again in terms of market value – from 2 million to 4 million euros after being red penned nine times in a row between 2018 and 2021.
