With the long blond hair and the bright pink lacquered nails, she is a striking appearance between the mainly male autocross audience. Meike Woldendorp from Yde is participating this weekend in ‘Gas Geem in Y’, the autocross spectacle in Yde. An event that has been held in the village for sixty years.

For Meike it is a home game, as well as for her father Paul. Meike has rolled into the autocross by him. “That is something for her,” father Paul thought a few years ago.

“But it didn’t seem like anything to me,” laughs Meike. “Only when I was 19 years old did I go to the autocross for the first time and thought,” That is not going so fast, I can do that too. ” And so happened. This weekend she is participating for the second time.

Both father and daughter are completely grabbed by the autocross virus. They list together: “The speed, the sound and the cosiness. It is beech, it goes fast and if it succeeds the discharge is so big. That is a fantastic feeling.”

In the meantime Meike has received her father’s old car and Paul has put together another one. In the weekends they are busy with it and the engineers are still working hard during today’s competition.

Meike is getting ready for her first round around noon. She climbs in the cage and is tied tightly in the belts. “I have claustrophobia. So I don’t really like this. Just keeping breathing quietly,” she addresses herself.
