The Mgr. Frencken College in Oosterhout has sent a letter to all parents about last Friday’s fatal shooting. The school says that children who need extra attention or support are taken care of at school on Monday. “We will keep an eye on at school in the coming period if all children are doing well,” writes Rector Rob Schuurmans.
The Mgr. Frencken College is close to the place where Friday two men were shot and a man was injured. Some children have witnessed the shooting and the unrest that followed. “The event can also have an effect on the students of our school.”
In addition, there may have been violent videos on social media that children may have seen. “If you feel that your child needs extra attention or support, we would like to ask you to pass on to the mentor or coach. We can then ensure that these children are taken care of at school on Monday,” Schuurmans writes.
Crisis situation manual
Just like the Mgr. Frencken College also wants to offer other schools from the neighborhood their students. In collaboration with the municipality and the GGD, a manual has been made about how schools can best deal with this crisis situation.
A spokesperson for the municipality of Oosterhout said that it is up to the schools themselves what they do with the manual. “A number of schools have indicated that they want extra help, with these schools we are in contact and we look at what is needed in the coming days.”
