Fast-paced duel of pursuers: Dortmund happily wins the top game in Frankfurt

Status: 10/29/2022 8:31 p.m

Eintracht Frankfurt and Borussia Dortmund fought a duel at eye level in the Bundesliga in a sometimes classy top game. BVB had the better end for themselves.

Julian Brandt gave the visitors the lead in the 20th minute of the 2-1 win for the Black and Yellows, six minutes later Daichi Kamada equalized for Eintracht. Jude Bellingham then scored the winning goal (52′). In the end, the success was happy, because in the second round, Frankfurt missed numerous chances. In the 42nd minute, Eintracht were denied a possible penalty after a touch by Karim Adeyemi against Jesper Lindström.

In the table, Dortmund climb to third place with 22 points, Frankfurt has two points less and slips to fifth place. The efficient Dortmund won after three defeats away from home, Eintracht had previously won four competitive games in a row.

Frankfurt clearly better in terms of play

Much more would have been possible for the clearly better SBU in front of 50,000 spectators if the chances were exploited – so it is necessary to digest a negative experience before the group “final” in the Champions League at Sporting Lisbon on Tuesday (November 1st, 2022). For the already qualified Dortmunders, the guest appearance in Copenhagen on Wednesday is meaningless.

BVB took the lead with a counterattack, Brandt hit through the legs of Evan Ndicka and Kevin Trapp after a pass from Donyell Malen. But the SGE answered promptly, Kamada put a low shot from 18 meters into the far corner. As a result, the Europa League champion developed a clear overweight. Randal Kolo Muani aimed just wide of the goal angle (39′), then he hit the post with a lob (41′).

Kobel with brilliant deeds

After the change, the Terzic-Elf ran more initiative, after a nice combination, Bellingham completed alone in front of Trapp. After that, BVB started to swim completely. Gregor Kobel made brilliant saves against Jesper Lindström (54′, 58′) and Kolo Muani (57′, 63′), Nico Schlotterbeck also cleared after Götze-Schuss (57′) on the line. In the last few minutes, the mood on and off the pitch was heated. Among other things, Eintracht captain Sebastian Rode, who had already been replaced, saw yellow.

Both clubs face tasks in the Champions League

On Tuesday, Eintracht Frankfurt is challenged away at Sporting Lisbon in the Champions League group stage (Tuesday, November 1st, 2022 at 9:00 p.m.). A day later things get serious for BVB in Copenhagen (9 p.m.).

In the fight for the German championship, Dortmund Borussia is asking for a district duel against VfL Bochum (Saturday, November 5th, 2022 at 3:30 p.m.). Frankfurt has to fight for points in Augsburg at the same time.
