Fashion Revolution Week 2022: events to participate in

Fashion Revolution Week began in 2014 as Fashion Revolution Day to commemorate the horrific events of April 24, 2013: In Dhaka, Bangladesh, more than 1,100 garment workers were killed when the Rana Plaza building collapsed, which among other things housed five clothing factories.

It soon became clear that one day was not enough to remind people of the grievances in the fashion industry: low wages, insecure jobs, piecework, small margins and more meant that clothing became cheaper and not more expensive over the years. Fast fashion and throw-away items have made us stop appreciating the clothes we wear. Fashion Revolution Day has been extended to a full week and asks: “Who made my clothes?”

Fashion Revolution Week 2022: April 18-24

In various events worldwide (this year in 90 countries)! this week the spotlight will be on those who make our clothes; Supply chains are highlighted, as is dealing with fashion that is wasteful. Instead, sustainable practices are highlighted and ways to make clothing more durable and appreciated. FashionUnited took a look at the program in Germany.

Crisis fashion web shop

In the fake web shop crisis.future.fashion you can supposedly buy a white T-shirt for only 50 cents. But as soon as you click on it, the shop falls apart and reveals the actual message of the campaign, information about the current situation of factory workers, such as in Bangladesh, and options for action. “Instead of buying a t-shirt, we share the opportunity to support an emergency relief fund and other charitable organizations with a donation and thus make a contribution to combating these inhumane conditions,” explains Fashion Revolution Week.

Upcycling Events & Repair Workshops

Upcycling and repairing workshops are held in different cities, where participants can learn how to extend the life of different garments through upcycling and repairing.

Sustainable fashion pop-ups

Various sustainable labels present themselves through pop-ups in many cities in Germany and show that fashion can also be durable and in harmony with people and nature.

Clothes swaps

Exchange instead of buying new again and again – many people have real treasures in their wardrobes, but have forgotten them or they no longer like the color or style. So why not swap with someone and spruce up your wardrobe without spending any money? Clothing exchange events will also be held in many cities this year.

These are just a few examples of exciting events taking place in Germany this year until April 28 as part of Fashion Revolution Week. To find out what’s planned in your city, visit the events calendar on the Fashion Revolution Germany website (fashionrevolution.org/europe/germany).
