Farmers are campaigning in various places in Brabant. They are located along the entrances and exits of various highways and provincial roads, including the A67, A2 and N65.
The tractor units are located at the entrance to the A2 at Best-West, at Boxtel Noord and at Liempde. They are also located along slip roads at the N279 slip road at Heeswijk Dinther, at the N65 at Oisterwijk and along the A67 at Liessel and Hapert. In some places they are on a nearby viaduct. It is a spontaneous action.
Some demonstrations have now ended, but in some places the farmers are still standing. Along the A2 near Boxtel-Noord, among other things, it seems that the farmers are not going to leave for the time being, at nine o’clock another cool box was opened with beer and soft drinks.
Farmers are also standing along the highway in other places in the country.
Maintain safety
A police spokesman said they are on site to maintain security. “The idea of the farmers was to stand at entrances and exits, but we see in some places that they are also on the hard shoulder. Safety is our top priority. We will enforce where necessary.”
The police are talking to farmers. There would be no blockages, traffic can continue. “Everything is going smoothly,” said the police.
On the A2 near Best, a group of about ten tractors tried to block the driveway, but the police managed to prevent this.
‘Nothing that is not allowed’
One of the farmers participating in the campaign is Stan Verhoeven from Liempde. He is still standing next to the highway exit towards his village around eight thirty on Friday evening. In the grass, he says, ‘not in the driveway itself’.
“We don’t do anything that is not allowed,” he says while standing next to the A2. “Nobody is bothered by us. We want to inconvenience the citizens as little as possible. What can the citizen do about having such a cabinet?”
According to Verhoeven, if there is ‘no more saving it’, the protests could become more intense. “Then it may just be that something happens that hinders citizens. That everything is blocked. Not that I want that, but I can imagine that.”
Actions
Last Wednesday, the farmers held a national day of action in Stroe, Gelderland, in protest against the cabinet’s nitrogen plans. They announced then that they would more spontaneously campaign in the near future.
