Farin Urlaub turns 60: His best live performances – a video ranking

Farin Urlaub is one of Germany’s greatest punk rock musicians. Whether together with Die Ärzte or with his solo project Farin Urlaub Racing Team – he simply knows how to deliver a good live show. To celebrate his 60th birthday on October 27th, we’ve picked out the ten best live performances of his entire career. And of course: Happy Birthday, Farin!

As part of the Farin Urlaub Racing Team, the singer was on his “FURTOUR” in 2014 and particularly made halls shake with the song “Zehn”. Standing still on the sidelines was not an option here.

2. “YMCA” feat. Village People (2004)

In 2004, Farin Urlaub and Die Ärzte made a very special guest appearance. Together with Village People they performed the hit “YMCA” live on stage in Berlin, including the very appropriate costumes.

3. “Life Before Death” (2023)

In Vienna, Farin Urlaub surprised everyone present when he played this song alone. With just his guitar, the punk rocker sat down on a stool and gave people goosebumps with “Life Before Death.”

4. “Is this still punk rock?” (2012)

Farin Urlaub delivered another rousing performance with the doctors in the summer of 2012 as part of their “THE END IS NOT OVER YET TOUR” in Berlin’s Wuhlheide. “Is this still punk rock?” once again demonstrated mosh pit potential at the open-air concert.

5. “Teenage Kicks” feat. The Undertones (2012)

Together with his band colleague Bela B, Farin Urlaub caused big eyes with a guest appearance at a concert by The Undertones in 2012. Together they performed the hit “Teenage Kicks” and created a magical moment on the Berlin Waldbühne.

By far the most frequently viewed live recording of the doctors online is from 1987. During a concert broadcast live on ARD, they played their song “Geschwisterliebe”. The incest track played on TV was a real scandal.
