On the Wacken Open Air, visitors have traditionally taken the Infield of the Festival site on Wednesday (July 30th). As announced, the gates to the Holy Ground, the area in front of the main stages “Faster” and “Harder” opened around 3:30 p.m.
Not only the rain flows on the site
Thousands of metal fans took the rubber -boosted legs in hand and hastily trudged into the mushy sacred halls of rock music. The soil on the entire area had already been softened by several days and converted the paths into mud paths. Festival founder Holger Hübner welcomed the crowd under drizzle with the words: “Moin Metalheads, nice that you are all back!”, Reported “Die Zeit”. “Original Wacken -Wetter, thank you very much for that!”, Hübner continued. With the thunderous cheers of the predominantly black -clad mass, the anticipation of the last doubts about the weather replaced the weather: Wacken starts again – even with a short rain break to the starting shot.
Already on Wednesday, the program presents some renowned acts, even if not all stages are open. The Finnish cello metal from Apocalyptica, the German Symphonic Metal formation Beyond the Black and the energetic punk rock power woman Your cousin will open the Metal Mecca this year. Before opening the main stages, the brass band of the Wacken Firefighters traditionally voted its guests. The metalheads paid tribute to the cover versions of Iron Maiden, AC/DC and Metallica with applause in snapping rubber boots.

Surprise headliner: storm
In the night of Wednesday, the “original wacken weather” made headlines. Parts of the site should already be evacuated due to a thunderstorm. But the rain declined – the evacuation was withdrawn from the organizers: inside. At least until now, because lousy weather is the order of the day for the entire festival duration. But for now everything is certain, it says in one Instagram post of the festival.
The Wacken Open Air (W: O: A) has been taking place annually in the small community in Schleswig-Holstein since 1990 in early August. Today it is one of the world’s largest heavy metal festivals. This year’s line-up includes internationally known acts such as Guns N ‘Roses (first appearance at W: O: A), the French band Gojira, Papa Roach, Machine Head and also Scorpions guitarist Michael Schenker with band. The fans have had the 85,000 tickets in their pockets since autumn-the mega event has been sold out since September.
