Bielefeld did the next sensation and threw defending champion Leverkusen out of the trophy. All dams broke at the fans.
Arminia Bielefeld wrote club history and is in the final of the DFB Cup for the first time. The majority of the 26,601 fans celebrated the 2-1 win against Bayer Leverkusen frenetically. After the final whistle, however, all the dams broke: While the starring ensemble of the Werkelf was only stunned, hundreds of followers of the large outsider stormed the lawn.
Bielefeld’s stadium speaker interfered, wanted to stop the chaos and screamed into the microphone: “This is now very, very important: Please go down the square, do not storm the space.” He said the club still had a lot ahead and will play again next Tuesday. “We want to celebrate, we want to party, we want to emotion, but please don’t storm the space. Because: We drive to Berlin.”
The other Arminia fans already sang loudly: “Berlin, Berlin, we drive to Berlin” and “Oh, how is that nice”. Then the stadium spokesman turned to the supporters again: “We now want to celebrate the team. Treat the moment to the team that we have achieved this historical thing.” Then he also let his emotions run free: “It’s just madness, just cool. We are in the DFB Cup final!”
The Bielefeld supporters went back to the stands. The team from Mitch Kniat meanwhile moved up cup shirts, celebrating the fifth cup victory against a higher -class opponent. The coach said after the coup at the ARD microphone: “I’m just proud of this team.” He announced: “Nobody is sleeping in the city today.”
Then he referred to the duel: “We didn’t need luck at all, because we were on the pusher all the time.” In Berlin, Arminia will play either against VfB Stuttgart or RB Leipzig on May 24th, which will compete in the second semi-finals this Wednesday (8:45 p.m. in the T-Online live ticker).
