Next price hammer at Lidl!

After the recent price reduction of numerous items in the cheese range, Lidl in Germany is now permanently reducing the prices for pasta.

Since the beginning of the year, Lidl has reduced the prices of over 700 items from different product groups.

▶︎ The pasta varieties spaghetti, penne rigate and fusilli of the own brand “Combino” are reduced in price. Instead of the previous EUR 0.99, these now only cost EUR 0.79 (new basic price EUR 1.58/kg).

A minus of 20 percent!

“This price reduction will be clearly felt by consumers. This shows that even in the currently challenging times, our customers can rely on the usual low Lidl prices,” said Christian Härtnagel, CEO of Lidl in Germany.

Cheese has also been significantly cheaper in all Lidl branches for a few days. The Gouda of the own brand “Milbona” also goes down from 3.49 euros to 2.99 euros. The same applies to the sliced cheese varieties Tilsiter, Edam and butter cheese. The grated cheese (250 grams) falls from 2.59 euros to 2.19 euros.

15 percent price reduction!

Falling grain prices and falling inflation

Background: In April, wheat prices fell by around EUR 24 per tonne and corn prices also fell by EUR 24 per tonne. The reason for the fall in cheese prices is also “an easing on individual commodity markets”.

Grain prices continue to fall in early May. The reasons are the increase in imports from Ukraine, large inventories and fierce price competition in exports.

The inflation rate is also slowly falling: inflation fell to +7.2% in April 2023 – the lowest level since August 2022. It is measured as the change in the consumer price index (CPI) compared to the same month last year. The inflation rate in April 2023 fell again compared to March (+7.4 percent) and February 2023: (+8.7 percent).
