“Fake News”: Emre Can defends himself against rumors and criticism

According to a media report, Emre Can from Bundesliga soccer club Borussia Dortmund is one of the players in the squad who are to be handed over in the summer due to disappointing performances. After the away win at VfB Stuttgart, the BVB all-rounder reacted to these rumors – with clear words.

Emre Can knows about the latest speculation about his future at BVB. “I read today that they want to sell me,” he said after BVB’s 2-0 win in Stuttgart on Friday evening on Norwegian broadcaster Viaplay.

“Bild” reported after Borussia’s 4-1 defeat against RB Leipzig that Can is now on the hit list. The 37-time German national player rarely shows the performance that is expected of him.

In addition, Can would never have made himself indispensable in coach Marco Rose’s team, neither in central midfield nor in defence.

Recently it was even said that BVB was even willing to let Emre Can pay a relatively small transfer fee of 15 million euros. In the summer of 2020, after a six-month loan, he was signed by Juventus Turin for 25 million euros.

The 28-year-old now made it all too clear what he thinks about the rumours: “For me it’s fake news.” Can continued: “I play every game, I’m on the pitch for 90 minutes every game. They say I made mistakes this season. That’s not true. I made a mistake this season and that was last week (in the 1: 4 against RB Leipzig, editor’s note).”

The defensive player is by no means thinking of saying goodbye, his working paper for the black and yellow is still valid until 2024 anyway.

In Borussia Dortmund’s 2-0 win over Stuttgart, Emre Can played in the back four as a right-back. Most recently, the trained midfielder was used mainly in central defence. Can received a grade of 4.0 from sport.de for his performance against VfB.
