The municipality of Coevorden wants to invest 250,000 euros in a new power grid on the Markt in Coevorden. In this way, events such as the Kermis can be kept climate neutral.
A fair consumes around 22,000 liters of diesel in two weeks. The plan is in line with the sustainability objective of the municipality to emit 20 percent less carbon dioxide next year than in 2013.
The expectation is that the sustainable current can be used in 2027. That will take a while, because the network operator needs time to build a traffic station, or electricity house. According to the municipality, the money will be earned back within fifteen years.
Many cities already preceded Coevorden. In Zwolle, the fair has been running at green electricity since 2019 and Tilburg – the largest fair in the Netherlands – also wants to become climate neutral.
