The Como coach looks back on the historic season and thanks Cagliari for the success over Milan: “The defeat against Sassuolo was the most difficult moment, having made ‘family’ our strength. We have already started talking about the transfer market, I can’t wait to start again”
It’s a slightly different Fabregas from the one we learned about in the conferences during the championship. You can’t say he’s relaxed because his nature doesn’t allow it. Maybe he’s calmer. In the belly of Sinigaglia, the day after the big party in the city, in summing up the season we see a man who finally takes a breath and enjoys the moment. “It was a crazy season also in terms of continuity – says the Spanish coach -. The hardest moment perhaps in the final with the equalizer in Udine, the blow in the Italian Cup at San Siro, the defeat against Sassuolo. But we became close as a team, as a family, it wasn’t a given to get back up, the team is very young. I’m here today because we did something historic, if we had finished fifth I wouldn’t have made this conference.”

The strongest memory is still Sunday evening in Cremona, all the tension in following the last seconds of the Milan match. “It all happened very quickly – says Fabregas -, there was the stress of not knowing what was happening, after our fourth goal it’s true, I asked what the others were doing. We deserved to stay inside, we believed in it until the end and we were rewarded”. And speaking of Milan, Cesc reveals a little personal secret. “I received so many congratulatory messages. Conte, Mourinho, Wenger, many former teammates. And then Pisacane: the second person, after my family, to whom I sent a video. Fabio always goes for the victory, and when a friend does it it’s even more special.”

Then the analysis of the season as a whole and a summary of his experience in Italian football. Congratulations are for having fused playfulness and resultism, for having brought a new vision to our country which needs fresh and courageous ideas more than ever today. “We are no one to teach anyone anything – Cesc points out -, we have made a journey, we don’t change our style for anyone, at most for our fans. Out there with president Suwarso and sporting director Ludi and all the others we are too strong, if next year we finish fourteenth we will start again. Personally in Italy I feel I have grown, in the second part of the season I feel improved in my management on the bench, before I was more emotional. I am more confident in myself, in the team and in our work”.

If his future in Como is not in doubt, that of star Nico Paz is not. With the qualification for the Champions League, have the chances of seeing him in the blue and white increased for another year? “Nico has been fundamental this year – explains Fabregas – and I think that, on this issue, the less I say the better. But we’ve started talking about it internally, I can say that I’m calm, let’s let the right people work, we’ll talk to Real Madrid and then we’ll see.
