Fabiola and Toon married as Santa Claus and Christmas wife: ‘Extra holiday’

Fabiola Berendsen and Toon Netten from Eindhoven made a long-cherished dream come true in 2018: they got married completely in Christmas style. The bride wore a red dress full of white flowers and fur, which makes even Santa Claus jealous. A horse-drawn sleigh for the couple and a ‘Christmas express’ for the guests completed the fairy tale. In the story series ‘Yes, I want!’ the couple looks back on their wedding and announces big plans. “We want to do it over.”

“We often take the photos to enjoy this beautiful day,” says Fabiola, who is still happy with her Toon after almost four years of marriage. The couple decided to get married in Christmas style. With a little more hesitation, the couple got together.

“First she rejected me.”

The two have known each other since their school days. “But then she rejected me”, Toon confesses. The spark flew when they reconnected on Facebook six years ago. He proposed to her and without hesitation she said ‘yes’.

Fabiola has loved Christmas all her life and Toon is a great lover of fairy tales. For the bride, the red-satin wedding dress with white flowers and a fur collar was a girl’s dream come true. “Mandy van de Mortel made it based on an example we had seen. She did that perfectly.” It is obvious that it had to be red, because ‘red belongs to Christmas’.

“We didn’t get permission for the reindeer.”

Next to a hall that looked like Winter Wonderland, the couple went big with a horse-drawn sleigh. “We did not receive permission for the reindeer, but I was also very happy with the beautiful Frisians for the sleigh,” the groom previously told Omroep Brabant. The guests arrived in a special train, ‘the Christmas Express’.

One thing the newlyweds had no control over at the time of the wedding: the weather. “It would have been perfect with snow.” Yet the fairy tale still continues. “We already celebrated Christmas with the whole family, but now we have our wedding day on December 23 as an extra holiday.”

“Do it over when all the kids can be there.”

The couple has a beautiful pursuit. “We have always said that we want to remarry on our five-year anniversary with all three children of Toon from a previous relationship. That did not work in 2018. We now have two children in our lives and we are in careful contact with the third. We hope with all our heart that we can do it again next year with the whole family.”
