Windass man of the match

Newcastle United surprisingly failed in the third round of the FA Cup at third division side Sheffield Wednesday. Third in the Premier League table, they lost 2-1 (0-0) to the three-time FA Cup winners after a brace from Josh Windass (52nd and 65th minute). For Newcastle, Bruno Guimarães only managed the connecting goal to the final score (69th).

At the debut of new signing Cody Gakpo, cup defenders FC Liverpool did not get more than 2: 2 (1: 1) against Premier League opponents Wolverhampton Wanderers in their own stadium. Gakpo, who had been signed by PSV Eindhoven at the beginning of the year, prepared the interim 2-1 for Liverpool through Mohamed Salah (52nd). Darwin Núñez (45th) had previously scored the 1-1 for coach Jürgen Klopp’s team. The goals for Wolverhampton were scored by Gonçalo Guedes (26′) and Hee-chan Hwang (66′). Both teams are now playing in a replay in Wolverhampton for a place in the fourth round.
