Race to forget for Leclerc, who in Silverstone closes in fourteenth position, penultimate if we consider the various retreats and accidents. The strategy adopted at the start immediately conditioned its race, already difficult for the variable weather in England. The Monegasque, in fact, decided to return to the pits after the training lap, carried out under the flood, to remove the intermediate and mount the yellow just before the green traffic light, when the sun was. Choice that proved fatal, as it relegated it to the rear for all 52 laps. The Monegasque explains to Sky Sport the decision: “I’m not happy, but it was my decision. The first two sectors were dry for me and the third was very wet. I thought that with the sun the track would dried faster, but it was not so. So it was the wrong choice”. Then he did not succeed in a comeback: “The thing that worries me most is the step. From that moment on there was not really on me, because Hamilton I think it was strong enough, much stronger than me the safe one. From some race I do a fairly extreme set -up that pays on dry, I thought he paid even more on the wet. I think I had my answer.”

Hamilton’s words

Podium escaped from a whisker: Hamiton fought to the last lap to take third place in front of his audience. Although Hulkenberg managed to worry, there was no lack of problems on the SF-25: “He never manages to stay still and we would like it to be a little more firm. In low-speed curves it becomes very difficult to curve. It is also difficult to find balance, you always try to change something but it is very complicated. At the end of the strategy we have lost several positions, three or four and this has made our race much more difficult, Points “. If the race and qualifications have not gone as expected, not all the weekend is to be thrown away. On Friday, in fact, concrete improvements were seen on the two single -seater: “The free were positive. I was there in front, I was much happier than the balance of the dry car and then in qualifying we were much stronger, I felt much more at ease”, he explains to Sky Sport, “the direction of structure we have chosen is not good for these conditions, but I think there are many positive aspects like this, even if it has not gone. Many indications can be drawn because I think I know how to explain to the team what I don’t want to be there in the next car.

The words of Vasseur

At the end of the race Vasseur defends Leclerc’s choice to change rubber before the street: “It was a difficult race from the first lap, when Charles ran the gamble to return immediately to put the slick. He had a strong feeling, but after all the race it was very difficult. We were always at the limit between intermediate tires and slides”. Then commenting on the performance of the two single -seater in the race at Sky Sport, Ferrari’s Team Principal focuses on the positive things of the weekend: “The step was not so bad, it was good beyond the McLaren. It was difficult to overcome, but we were not the only ones to struggle. We take the positive aspect of the weekend. We took a step forward in dry conditions. For the championship, we are increasing the advantage on Mercedes, WIN”. The Frenchman then returns to talk about the outburst in Leclerc’s radio team after qualifying: “The sixth place in qualifying is not a disaster, but when you are first in Q2 it is normal to be disappointed. Charles was angry, but it is normal to make mistakes. We have to work and improve.”
