F1 2022: compulsory full vaccination for drivers and employees

In the regulation for 2022 inserted the rule that requires all paddock staff to complete the vaccination cycle against Coronavirus. No exceptions will be allowed

The F1 paddock like a bubble, reserved exclusively for fully vaccinated people. For the 2022 world championship, all Formula 1 personnel will have to be fully vaccinated against the coronavirus according to the new rules established by the FIA: the decision, which will be introduced in the regulations for the new season, will apply to everyone, drivers, teams, media and hospitality guests.

no exception

There are no exemptions or exceptions: Formula 1 hopes this strict rule will avoid a repetition of the Novak Djokovic case linked to the rebound on his participation in the Australian Open tennis. An F1 spokesperson said: “The management of Formula 1 will require that all crew members be fully vaccinated and will not allow exemptions.”

a problem remains

Although most F1 team and FIA staff are moving towards completing the vaccination cycle, the decision could create a problem for those opposed to mandatory vaccination. FIA medical car driver Alan van der Merwe, for example, who rose to prominence for rescuing Romain Grosjean when his car caught fire at the Sakhir GP in 2020, has chosen not to have the vaccine.

away on March 20

F1, the first world sport to resume after the pandemic, with a calendar of 17 races in 2020 and 22 GPs last year, for 2022 foresees a season of 23 appointments, with the initial grand prix scheduled in Bahrain on March 20.
