Eyewear group EssilorLuxottica starts 2023 with more sales than expected

The eyewear company EssilorLuxottica achieved more sales than expected in the first quarter. Revenue rose by almost ten percent year-on-year to EUR 6.15 billion, as the company announced in Charenton-le-Pont on Thursday. Analysts had only expected an average of 5.9 billion euros. In Asia and Latin America, growth was in the double digits, in North America and Europe it was in the high single digits. The product groups of spectacle frames, glasses and contact lenses grew at a similar pace.

Company boss Francesco Milleri spoke of another strong quarter. EssilorLuxottica owns, among others, the optician chains Apollo and Sunglass Hut and the eyewear brands Oakley and Ray-Ban. However, the company also makes eyewear for luxury brands such as Dolce & Gabbana, Chanel and Armani. EssilorLuxottica did not disclose any earnings figures. (dpa)
