Because several former players had accused him of abuse of power, André Fuhr was no longer allowed to work as a handball coach. Now his comeback is approaching.

Handball coach André Fuhr can hope for his early rehabilitation by the German Handball Association (DHB). In a mediation process in front of the Hamm Higher Regional Court, both parties have agreed out of court. This concludes the pending procedures against the trainer.

Various former players had accused, among other things, psychological violence and abuse of power. Due to the reporting of the “Spiegel”, the case of high waves made in the sports world. Both Fuhr’s association Borussia Dortmund and the DHB, where the 54-year-old worked as a U20 coach, then ended the cooperation with the coach.

Fuhr is only missing further training

One of the central points of the agreement is that André Fuhr regrets his behavior towards players whose feelings he may have injured. He apologizes for this and wants to align his future work as a trainer to the experiences made.

Now continued education must be completed in the areas of communication, motivation and group dynamics. As soon as he proves participation in the DHB, the association hires the ongoing procedure according to the coaching regulations. Then Fuhr can work as a trainer again.

DHB President praises “balanced result”

According to the DHB, Fuh had successfully completed several state -certified training courses in coaching and communication before the agreement. The long period of time since the allegations and the fact that he has hardly been able to work as head coaches since then have contributed to the decision to end the procedure.

Neither the DHB nor drove himself. DHB President Andreas Michelmann described the agreement as a criminal law. “Balanced result”which forms a good basis for further advance the prevention of violence in handball.
